Abstract
Human feces were collected from healthy adults and infants, to obtain probiotic yeasts inhabiting human and/or animal intestines. Isolated yeast strains grew well at aerobic and anaerobic culture conditions, and showed strong viability at various physiological temperature (30-42¡É) and pH(pH 2-4). They showed antagonistic properties against human pathogenic Gram-positive and -negative bacteria. Dominant isolates were identified as Pichia farinosa SKM-1, P. anomala SKM-T, and Galactomyces geotrichum SJM-59 based on carbohydrate assimilation and partial 26S rDNA sequencing analysis.
